Must-Have :

• General acute care dialysis nursing competencies
• AVF / AVG cannulation
• CVC access
• Recognition and management of hemodialysis complications and emergencies
• Peritoneal dialysis site care and catheter care
• Peritoneal dialysis initiation and termination

Description :

Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated with the health system within the past year.

Candidates who were employed through outside firms will be considered.

Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination.

May be asked to precept as needed by the unit.

First to float between campuses as needed.

The unit has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 2 : 1 and 1 : 1 treatments.

Common patient diagnoses include End-Stage Renal Disease and acute renal failure.

RNs are required to titrate heparin drips only.

Other drips are set rate only.

Patients are monitored with telemetry in the acute suite with a monitor technician reading strips.

In the ICU, patients are monitored at bedside and with central monitoring.

Charge nurses may take an assignment.

Nurse aids are present on the unit.

Respiratory equipment used in the ICU may include vents, HiFlow, CPAP, and BiPap.

12-hour shifts are required every other Saturday and rotate holidays with core staff.

On-call duty is required one night per week and every other Sunday.

First to float between campuses is required as needed.

Navy blue scrubs are required.

Unit-specific orientation will take place on the first shift of paperwork, and the remainder will occur on the unit.

The hospital can cancel shifts as per the policy outlined.

Charting system used is MEDITECH.
