Tuesday–Friday : 3 : 00 AM – 11 : 30 AM

Saturday : 8 : 00 PM – 4 : 30 AM

Job Summary

The Specimen Technician (SPT I) performs essential support functions within the Specimen Processing Department , ensuring accurate, timely handling of specimens in a high-volume production environment. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, data entry competency, and the flexibility to adapt to changing workflows and customer demands.

Key Responsibilities

Perform general support functions including A-station work, presort, specimen pickup / delivery, imaging / microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.

Enter data accurately and meet productivity standards of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Learn and understand specimen types and test-related compliance regulations, which may change daily.

Maintain accuracy, confidence, and timeliness in all specimen processing tasks.

Handle nightshift assignments and remain available for weekends, holidays, on-call needs, and overtime.

Work in a biohazard environment while practicing safe work habits.

Communicate effectively with staff at all levels and support a positive, team-oriented environment.

Adhere to departmental productivity, quality standards, and completion times.

Keep work area clean and follow all safety, compliance, and core value policies.

Demonstrate strong flexibility and an ability to adapt to daily operational changes.

Required Experience

High School diploma or equivalent.

Basic understanding of computers.

Nice-to-Have Experience

Previous laboratory experience.

Medical background including knowledge of medical terminology used in clinical labs.

Experience in a hospital laboratory or production environment.
