American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU Float Pool position requiring Epic experience and willingness to float among critical care units and a nearby facility.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a hospital ICU Float Pool with assignments across Neuro, Trauma, Medical, Surgical, Cardiac ICUs, PCU / ACC / CCU, ED holding, Med Surg, and surge areasNight shifts are 12 hours in lengthPatient population includes COVID, neuro, trauma, sepsis, DKA, post-op cardiac cases, general surgery, and complex medical / surgical patientsCare for post-op CVICU patients including CABG, TAVR, esophagectomy, thoracic and vascular surgeries, but not fresh CABG / TAVR or patients with ECMO, IABP, Impella, EVDs, post-TPA, or hypothermia protocolICU patient ratios are 1 : 2; PCU / ACC / CCU ratios are 1 : 4; ER holding ratios are based on acuityPossible float to a nearby facility located 2.5 miles away, with notification in advanceUses Epic for charting, with experience requiredRequired to work every other weekend and may rarely be scheduled for consecutive weekendsThree-week schedules are posted 7–10 days prior, with no self-scheduling optionsComplete required hospital and unit orientation prior to first shiftSupport includes 24 / 7 charge nurse, hospitalist, RT, intensivist, and on-call cardiologistMust document hourly rounding, complete whiteboard updates, and provide bedside shift reportsTwo-nurse verification required when wasting controlled medicationsStrict adherence to medication handling protocols required, including no unsecured storageDocument pain assessments before and after administration of pain medications according to timing guidelinesBreaks are required and enforcedProfessional scrubs of any color permittedFree parking is available in designated areasTime off requests over five days require manager approval\n \n Requirements\n
Active WA or Compact RN licenseMinimum 1 year of ICU experience requiredCurrent BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications requiredEpic EMR experience is requiredStrong ICU background and previous Float Pool experience required for first-time travelersMust pass a telemetry competency exam prior to startRequired skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator and BiPAP management, invasive line management, ostomy care, management of drains and trachs, chest and lumbar drains, and IV medication titration\n Benefits\n
