Director, Distribution
The Director of Distribution Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW) oversees all aspects of distribution center operations, including receiving, warehousing, inventory management, order fulfillment, and shipping. This role is responsible for optimizing distribution processes to ensure the efficient, accurate, and timely delivery of products while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer service.
The Director develops and executes strategic plans that drive operational excellence, cost reduction, continuous improvement, and employee engagement, while leading and developing a high-performing team of managers and staff to achieve business goals. This position also ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory standards, oversees budget performance, and champions talent development to support a culture of accountability, collaboration, and sustained improvement across the operation.
Key responsibilities include :
- Operational Leadership : Oversee all distribution center functions, including receiving, warehousing, inventory management, order fulfillment, and shipping to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely product delivery.
- Strategic Planning : Develop and execute strategic plans to optimize distribution processes, improve service levels, reduce costs, and align with overall business objectives.
- Customer Service & Quality : Ensure customer satisfaction through high-quality service, accurate order processing, and on-time delivery performance.
- Systems & Process Management : Utilize warehouse management and logistics systems to monitor stock levels, manage inventory accuracy, and drive operational efficiency.
- Continuous Improvement : Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, streamline operations, and strengthen the site's culture of safety, quality, and performance.
- Employee Engagement & Talent Development : Lead, coach, and develop managers and staff; promote engagement, collaboration, and accountability across the team.
- Budget Management : Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets to ensure effective allocation of resources and cost control.
- Compliance & Safety : Ensure full compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements; promote and reinforce a strong safety culture.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with Supply Chain, Transportation, Manufacturing, and Customer Service teams to support seamless end-to-end operations.
- Performance Measurement : Establish, track, and analyze KPIs to evaluate operational performance, identify improvement opportunities, and drive accountability.
- Decision-Making Impact : Make decisions with a significant impact on the overall success of the business unit and organizational objectives.
- Leadership & Governance : Direct the functional area through department managers and professional staff, establishing clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
Minimum basic qualifications include :
Education : Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.Experience : Minimum of 57 years of progressive leadership experience in distribution, logistics, or warehouse operations, including responsibility for multiple functional areas.Leadership : Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, including department managers and professional staff.Operational Expertise : Strong understanding of distribution center operations, including receiving, warehousing, inventory control, order fulfillment, and shipping.Systems Knowledge : Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory tracking, and logistics management software.Budget & Metrics Management : Demonstrated experience managing budgets, KPIs, and performance metrics to ensure operational efficiency and cost control.Safety & Compliance : Working knowledge of OSHA standards and experience enforcing safety and compliance practices within a distribution environment.Continuous Improvement : Proven track record implementing process improvements, lean initiatives, six sigma or other operational efficiency programs.Communication Skills : Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization.Decision-Making : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions that impact overall business performance.Desired characteristics include :
