Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position, requiring 3 years of recent L&D experience and night shift availability.
Responsibilities
Provide care in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit with 11 L&D rooms, 2 C-section suites, and 17 postpartum bedsUnit follows AWHONN staffing guidelines with ratios of 1 : 1 for intrapartum, 1 : 1-3 for antepartum, and 1 : 3-4 for postpartum / mother-babyAverage 5-6 deliveries per day, with 150-180 per monthCares for patients 30+ weeks gestation; patients under 30 weeks are stabilized and transferredScheduled for 12-hour night shifts (3x12), including every other weekend and potential holiday rotationTravelers may float primarily between L&D and Postpartum / Mother-Baby units and occasionally to other areas for sitter shiftsUses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferredDuties include managing laboring and postpartum patients, participating in high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and titrating medication dripsCollaborate with a team that includes charge / resource nurses, CSTs, CNAs, OBs, neonatologists, and CRNAsThree days of unit-specific orientation provided with a preceptorRequired to wear navy blue scrubsTravelers are typically the first to float if neededFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyBlock scheduling and special scheduling requests are not acceptedNo Critical Access Hospital-only experience acceptedRequirements
Active ID or compact RN license required at time of considerationCurrent certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (or NCC Certified Fetal Monitoring)Minimum 3 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experienceExperience in both L&D and Postpartum requiredAbility to care for high-risk L&D patients and to circulate in C-sectionsExperience titrating drips such as Pitocin, magnesium, and insulin preferredMust be comfortable in a Level 3 trauma hospital with 24 / 7 CRNA and respiratory therapy supportEpic charting experience preferredDriver's license requiredMust provide two professional references : one supervisor within past 12 months and one peer or supervisor within past 3 years (must document employment dates and rehire eligibility)No local candidates; must live at least 50 miles from the facilityFormer permanent employees must be away for at least one year before being eligibleBenefits
