ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Security Supervisor to join our team.

The salary range for this position : $30.00 - 35.75

Finalsalary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to therole, and internal equity.

Reporting to the Director, Campus Security Services, the ArtCenter Security Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-day activities of the ArtCenter's contract security team. The incumbent will work directly with the contract security providers Campus Manager, Supervisors and Officers. This role leads the team with a strong focus on customer service, community engagement, and effective service delivery to maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming campus environment. In the absence of senior leadership this position will coordinate and manage any onsite emergency response.

The Supervisor collaborates closely with students, faculty, staff, and visitors to build trust and transparency while addressing security needs with empathy and professionalism. Key responsibilities include administrative and operational functions, such as parking operations, access control systems, emergency preparedness, and incident response coordination. This position will provide leadership and operational oversight with a commitment to serving and connecting with the campus community.

We are hiring for 4 positions with different shift schedules. Each position is full-time on-site (35 hours per week) . Please indicate which shift you prefer or if you are open to any shift.

Available Shifts :

  • Morning Shift

Days : Monday - Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. - 4 : 30 p.m.

  • Swing Shift
  • Days : Wednesday - Sunday, 4 p.m. -12 a.m.

  • Graveyard Shift
  • Days : Friday - Tuesday, 11 p.m. - 7 a.m.

  • Relief Shift
  • Days : Saturday & Sunday (Morning), 8 : 30 a.m. - 4 : 30 p.m., Monday & Tuesday,(Swing) 4 p.m. - 12 a.m., Wednesday (Grave), 11 p.m. - 7 a.m.

    The position will require flexibility to work a staggered, or alternate schedule to meet the demands of the work, which could include weekends or evenings. The position will work across both Colleges Campuses. The College reserves the right to modify schedules as needed to meet the business needs with appropriate notice.

    Essential Functions

    Security Operations - 45%

  • Acts as the Colleges initial onsite incident commander during emergencies, making decisions regarding the deployment of contract security staff, requesting emergency services and coordinating with emergency responders while maintaining communicating with College leadership.
  • Oversee the contract security staff for the proactive crime prevention and the protection of life and property
  • Update and enforce security policies, procedures, and training programs; ensure all contract security personnel remain compliant and informed.
  • Conduct, review and / or approve all written reports (security and incident reports), parking citations and warnings; conduct follow-up investigations if needed
  • Maintain and monitor department records, and reports that pertain to security management as required by law
  • Identify potential liability risks and implement mitigation strategies. Inform the Director of Campus Security Services of incidents that may attract media attention or violate school policy
  • Compliance and Programming - 30%

  • Assist with testing of the campuses emergency notification systems to ensure functionality and readiness.
  • Complete after-action assessments with the security team to ensure best practices are upheld; revise where needed
  • Confirm all incidents are properly documented and reports are completed when required.
  • Ensure that all Clery related reports are documented, and the Director of Campus Security Services is informed of the violation.
  • Department Operations - 20%

  • Provide oversight of the day-to-day contract security operations and ensure the department's work is aligned with, and in support of, the goals and objectives of ArtCenter's overall strategic plans
  • Enforce all College policies, including safety protocols
  • Non-Essential duties - 5%

  • Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and / or councils
  • Attend conferences and seminars
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Required Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with contract security teams, with a solid understanding of security officer roles, responsibilities, and daily operational requirements. Experience with emergency responses preferably on a campus or highly populated account
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment, collect and analyze data, establish facts, define problems and recommend solutions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts, solve problems, and effectively engage with the campus community, contractors, and vendors. Skilled in preparing accurate and detailed reports. Ability to implement measures to prevent crime and improve safety on campus
  • Current CPR / First Aid, AED certification
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Proficient in or able to quickly learn security related computer-based systems and programs, such as MaxPro, and Prowatch Honeywell systems and Maxient, or other related databases
  • Knowledge of security systems, including fire life safety, access control, alarms and Internet Protocol (IP) camera systems
  • Ability to work weekends and evening hours, and to staff events
  • Ability to enforce and implement policies and procedures
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • State of California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) certified security officer (Guard Card)
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment into workplace practices within ArtCenter's diverse communities

Regular and consistent attendance are required for most positions. Must be able to work long hours and weekends. Ability to travel around and between campuses and buildings.

    Vision : Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, looking at equipment, viewing a computer terminal and other normal work with or without correction.
