CWI / Lab Technician

Weld Spec/HMT is currently looking for a CWI / Lab Technician in Beaumont, TX.

This is a fulltime embedded role with guaranteed 40 hours/week, with some local travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and calibrate nondestructive testing equipment, Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using non-destructive and destructive methods of testing.
• Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to code requirements
• Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results
• Organize and report test results
• Perform specialized inspections
• May instruct and supervise others
• Writing welding procedures
• Perform other job related tasks as assigned by management

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Some college preferred
• Technical background in NDT methods and procedures, Must provide previous certs or OJT for each method
• Must be a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
• ability and knowledge to write welding procedures (WPS)
• Demonstrated ability to effectively perform assigned tasks and interpret results of inspections
• Knowledge of testing equipment
• A good understanding of precision measuring tools, such as calipers and micrometers
• Will be required to pass a DISA background check

Essential preferred requirements:

• Must have a valid TWIC Card or the ability to obtain one
• some sites may require a clear DISA hair follicle and U/A
• May be required to perform job duties from elevated levels and inside confined spaces
• Must have good written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to perform each method per code and procedure requirements
• Must be able to read and understand the job scope and specifications for each task
• Must be able to provide clear, detailed reports in a timely manner once a task is completed

Additional certifications desired, but not required are:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
• Self‐motivated with good written and verbal communication skills with a positive team‐oriented attitude is required.
• Trained in OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30
• Respirator fit tested (current)
• Current CPR & First Aid
• Current safety training (within the last 12 months) to include but not limited to confined space, fall protection, LOTO, HazCom, etc.
• Certified Level II Positive Material Identification (PMI), other methods would be a bonus but not required
