The Hsu Lab is hiring a position for a Research Scientist. Work in the lab focuses on understanding the molecular basis of biology, specifically with regards to GI malignancies. The Research Scientist will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments to support ongoing projects in the lab. This includes manipulating gene expression using standard molecular biology tools (i.e. siRNA, shRNA, CRISPR), performing cell-based assays to assess cellular proliferation and transformation, and carrying out basic protein and RNA analyses. The scientist will also assist with in vivo studies in mouse models, including handling, monitoring, and collection of experimental samples, as well as evaluating responses to experimental treatments. In addition, the role will involve participation in omics-style studies (e.g., metabolomics and proteomics) and contribute to the analysis and interpretation of resulting data.
The Research Scientist will maintain an organized and detailed laboratory notebook that clearly documents experimental plans, methods, and results, and will present updates on their work at lab
meetings (no more than 2 - 3 times per year).
Additional Information:Responsibilities
- Design and perform experiments to support research projects in the lab.
- Use standard molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g., gene perturbation methods, cloning, cell viability and migration assays, and basic protein/RNA analysis).
- Maintain and culture cell lines following sterile technique and prepare samples for downstream analyses.
- Participate in mouse studies, including handling animals, assisting with experimental procedures, and collecting and processing tissues or tumors.
- Assist with IACUC and IBC protocol submissions
- Keep a thorough, well-organized electronic or written lab notebook documenting experimental design, protocols, and results.
- Present research progress and data at lab meetings on a regular schedule (no more than 2-3 times per year)
- Work collaboratively with other lab members and assist with general lab maintenance as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Biological Sciences or relevant field. Prior experience with mice, reporter design, and experiments involving tRNA/RNA isolation and quantification strongly preferred.
