Commercial Design Specialist

Job Purpose

The Commercial Design Specialist is responsible for creating project designs, drawings, presentations, and timeline schedules for the Contract Division at Furnitureland South. This role includes preparing project quotations, entering approved projects into the Contract System, and coordinating the installation process. The Commercial Design Specialist also leads the division’s support team.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

Interface with Sales staff for preliminary project requirements and identification of sales services that are needed for each opportunity.

Attend and participate in weekly team meetings, collaboration meetings, and client meetings.

Engage with clients in a professional and personable manner while gaining project requirements and identification of their needs.

Provide furniture drawings, plan and 3-D; specifications, finishes, validations, installation drawings and BOM breakdown for Contract Sales and client review.

Attend vendor training, updates and any continuing education opportunities.

Collect all sign off paperwork (quotes, drawings, etc) and file it in the electronic project file.

Assist in projects installations : Attending weekly installation meetings with the team to discuss projected billing and scheduling of the installations.

Complete punch lists, warranty orders and service calls to ensure communication to clients occurs in a timely manner.

Complete time sheets and other administrative responsibilities.

Occasional client site visits will be required, alone or with the team.

Responsible for maintenance of design library materials and finishes.

Assist with updates and layout of the Contract Showroom.

Must have the ability to work quickly and accurately while avoiding errors.

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES FOR THIS POSITION :

Reasoning : Ability to apply logic and job knowledge in practical and responsible ways, showing good independent judgment, responding quickly and intelligently to everyday challenges, duties and requests in ways that are appropriate to Client, situation, setting and Furnitureland South’s culture.

Math : At least high school level aptitude and competence in addition, subtraction, percentages, multiplication and division skills.

Language : Conversant in high school level English, written and spoken.

Speech : Audible, intelligible and coherent in voice and diction, able to participate in conversations with Clients, other associates and management, in person, by handheld radio or by telephone.

Technology, Tools and Equipment : Familiar with current technology, basic computer skills, able to operate web-based functions, word processing, use of desk phones, smart phones, iPads, tablets, desktop and laptop computers, calculators. Dexterity and agility in handling and operating fax machines, copiers, and ever-evolving iterations of business technology.

Training : Either on-the-job training or formal education associated with this position.

Physical Strength : Able to do the following :

Lift and carry up to 15 lbs.

Sit for extended periods of time.

Walk within the office and various points within the retail area.

Function at workstations, desks, and on computers; and

Climbing stairs.

Vision : Near visual acuity, far visual acuity, peripheral vision.

Talking and Hearing : (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word) (Hearing - perceiving nature by sounds by ear.) This position is responsible for receiving daily instruction from supervisory and / or management personnel and for communicating job functions and giving instructions, so it is necessary to be able to communicate in person, one-on-one, in a group, and by telephone.

Reaching and Handling : Physical dexterity with Technology, Tools and Equipment. (Reaching - Extending the hands and arms in any direction) (Handling - lifting, holding, turning, maneuvering, receiving, handing back or otherwise working with writing utensils, currency, credit cards, merchandise, samples, paperwork, books, writing, keyboarding, mouse-operation.

Environmental Conditions : The worker is subject to indoor environmental conditions with some temperature changes. Outdoor walking among buildings will be necessary year-round.

Emotional Demands : The worker should possess sufficient emotional resilience to operate within a sometimes-hectic environment, in rapid-response situations, with simultaneously competing priorities, tactfully resolving issues for Clients with high expectations. The worker should be even-tempered, cool-minded and exhibit a high threshold for frustration and tolerance for stress.

Working Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a step stool as necessary.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent with three or more years of related experience.

Experience with AutoCAD software.

Intermediate experience with software systems such as Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Shared Docs.

Ability to accurately field measure to produce detailing drawings using the design software.

Solid understanding of ADA, egress, and building codes.

Knowledge of furniture and vendors, with the ability to stay up to date on current trends.

Focused on hospitality projects.

Furniture, fixtures and equipment driven.

Preferred Education And Experience

Associates degree from an accredited college or university with one year experience.

3+ years’ experience working in commercial design or related field.

Experience in use of Bluebeam, 2020, and CET design specification software.
