Strategic Account Manager

Ready to shape the future of science and global health? ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a dynamic Strategic Account Manager (SAM) to drive growth and build lasting partnerships across academia, government, biotech, and pharma.

This is a remote position covering the Central region with 60% travel required for client visits within the region, as well as attendance at tradeshows and conferences. Ideal locations include Illinois or Texas. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in strategic account management within the life sciences sector, excel at building strong client relationships, and thrive in a dynamic, remote environment with a customer-first approach. Knowledge of relevant research areas such as cell biology, microbial products and advanced models preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Sales and Customer Management : Sell products and services to customers primarily via telephone and Internet, acting as the main point of contact post-sale. Focus on ongoing customer satisfaction, retention, and business growth according to a quota. Close sales within defined geographic areas, industries, or product / service groups, and achieve organizational quotas.
  • Account Development and Relationship Building : Seek methods to develop new accounts, referrals, and generate new business from existing accounts. Guide lower staff in these efforts. Utilize external contacts to maintain relationships with accounts through ongoing client contact, follow-up, and support. Anticipate customer needs and communicate transaction information effectively.
  • Product Expertise and Administrative Tasks : Stay ahead of organizational products in the chosen scientific area, providing recommendations to customers based on their needs and promptly responding to inquiries. Execute sales strategies, generate sales reports, and identify opportunities to increase sales volume while ensuring service levels are met. Ensure administrative tasks are accurately entered in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 or more years' experience, including 0-2 years' supervisory experience or equivalent experience.
  • Strong scientific background with sales, marketing, and business skills.
  • Knowledge of molecular assays and pre-clinical biopharmaceutical development is a plus.
  • Strategic thinking, business instincts, creativity, and sound judgment.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, consensus-building, and influencing skills.
  • Familiarity with sales concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proactive and assertive in achieving goals.
  • Strategic problem-solving and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication skills across various disciplines.
  • Strong planning, time management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to shift priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly motivated team player with attention to detail.
  • Benefits

    The expected salary for this position is $145,000 to $160,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
