The City of Fitchburg is looking to add a part-time Utility Billing Assistant to join the Finance Team! Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager, this position assists in the day-to-day operations of the Utility department by answering phones during high peak times, completing customer final bills and answering customer inquiries concerning water / sewer operations. Decisions on day-to-day operations are made independently.

This is a 20 hour per week job share with a flexible schedule and opportunity to work remotely every other Friday after the initial training period.

This position will start after January 1, 2026.

The pay shown includes a 2% cost of living increase in 2026.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Daily interaction with customers regarding billing and general questions.
• Assist with the calculation of consumption for interim bills of home sales and tenant change-outs.
• Create work orders for utility personnel.
• Assist with developing a list of delinquent water / sewer accounts subject to late notices for nonpayment.
• Prepare late notices and customer correspondences to be mailed as needed using computer software.
• Investigate high usages from meter report and inform customers.
• Validate bank information for customer's bill payment.
• Maintain customer and landlord contact information.
