Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position with oncology experience and rotating 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital Med / Surg Tele unit with an adult and geriatric oncology patient population
  • Care for patients diagnosed with various cancers, including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
  • Specialized oncology treatments provided, including chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Staffing ratios target 1 : 4, may adjust to 1 : 5 depending on unit needs
  • 12-hour day / night rotating shifts may be scheduled as day, night, or a combination depending on department needs
  • Orientation includes one week on day shift followed by 36 hours of on-unit precepted orientation
  • Utilizes Epic for computerized charting; experience preferred
  • Key responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, participating in clinical trials, providing neobladder care, implementing infection prevention protocols, and monitoring telemetry readings
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and responds to rapid response events as needed
  • Responsible for feeding tube care, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenance
  • First week of orientation is dayshift, followed by on-unit orientation with preceptor support
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are accommodated as able
  • RTO (requested time off) must be built into the contract at the time of submission
  • Former employees are eligible after a 6-month break in service; current employees of Ohio State University hospitals are not eligible
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Strict compliance with Ohio fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly upon contract signing

    • Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license in hand
  • Minimum 2 years of Med / Surg Tele experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Proficiency in telemetry nursing with the ability to interpret dysrhythmias
  • Experience administering chemotherapy and performing oncology-specific procedures
  • Education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • At least 2 professional references required, including one from a supervisor or manager
  • ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
