The Asset Forfeiture Program is a statewide program developed to administer the disposition of forfeiture petitions and manage the storage, maintenance, liquidation, and distribution of assets seized by, and forfeited to the Louisiana State Police, hereafter referred to as the Department. The Asset Forfeiture Program provides assistance to all divisions and units of the Department in the seizure of large amounts of U.S. Currency, vehicles, and other assets which have been preliminarily identified as being used in the commission of narcotics crimes, illegal gambling, or sex crimes, or which are the fruits of those aforementioned crimes. The Asset Forfeiture Program is responsible for the follow-up and processing of all Department seizure cases through the court system in cooperation with Louisiana Parish District Attorney's Offices and United States Attorney's Offices. The Asset Forfeiture Program is organized within the Department's Bureau of Investigation. This includes briefing LSP Senior Command on issues that may involve significant ramifications; including the current balances of forfeiture accounts, which can range from balances of several thousands to over one million dollars, spending trends of the multiple asset forfeiture accounts, and usage limitations of forfeited assets retained by the Department.
