About JEM Wellness Brands

An exciting opportunity to join JEM Wellness Brands, a private equity-backed wellness brand with investments in Crunch Fitness, European Wax Center, and Massage Envy. The Director of Construction will play a critical role in supporting the company’s rapid growth, overseeing the design, construction, and expansion of new locations across multiple brands. The company plans to open 7-10 new Crunch Fitness locations annually, with a long-term goal of operating up to 75 locations. This role will also support expansion for other JEM Wellness portfolio companies.

Portfolio Snapshot

• Crunch Fitness: 8 open, 5 in development, 7 new locations planned for 2025, and at least 8 for 2026
• European Wax Center: 15 open locations
• Massage Envy: 83 open locations

Key Responsibilities

• Project Leadership: Manage the design, budgeting, and construction of new locations, remodels, expansions, and special projects.
• Team Oversight: Direct architects, engineers, and general contractors to ensure the successful completion of projects.
• Architectural Management: Supervise the preparation of construction documents, drawings, and blueprints.
• Permits & Approvals: Oversee permit applications and ensure all necessary approvals are secured on time.
• Budget & Scheduling: Develop project budgets and timelines, ensuring adherence to cost and scheduling goals.
• Contractor Engagement: Manage contractor bids, negotiations, and the full build-out process.
• On-site Quality Assurance: Conduct site visits to ensure quality and compliance with project specifications.
• Team Development: Lead and mentor a team that includes the Director of New Store Openings and Facilities Coordinator.
• Special projects: Oversee additional construction-related tasks and projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years managing the construction of large retail properties, ideally with exposure to the fitness industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in big box retail construction management preferred.
• Skills:
  • Leadership: Proven ability to develop and lead a team through the entire construction process, from planning to completion
  • Expertise in managing multiple, large-scale projects
  • Excellent financial and analytical capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of construction processes, contracts, and regulations.
  • Superior problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, project management software, and cost estimation.

• Ethical, hardworking, and an effective, straightforward communicator.
• Experience leading teams responsible for 7-10 openings per year and operating across the country.

Travel Requirements

• This role requires extensive travel, supporting projects across various U.S. locations.
