Description : The unit comprises 16 beds and serves as an extension of the emergency room. Common diagnoses include chest pain ruling out myocardial infarction, post-heart catheterization (no sheaths), stable pre-CABG, and post-interventional radiology and endoscopic procedures. Patients may require non-titration medications such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, or Labetalol. No patients are admitted for alcohol withdrawal unless three days out. The unit operates with a charge nurse available 24 / 7. Nurse aides are staffed per census for primary care. Floating to any telemetry or med-surg floor may be required. Weekend work is expected every third weekend, with holiday rotations among core staff. The unit does not manage ventilated patients but supports the use of BiPAP and CPAP. Real-time pharmacy and respiratory therapy support are available 24 / 7.
