About the Facility - San Antonio VAMC
The San Antonio VAMC provides comprehensive acute hospital care, including medicine, surgery, and psychiatry. Other specialty hospital programs include rehabilitation medicine, spinal cord injury, substance abuse, dental, and a restorative nursing home care program. There are numerous outpatient programs, including home care, community nursing home care, community residential care, adult day health care, a day treatment center, Women Veterans Health, care to homeless Veterans with serious psychiatric problems and services to veterans with severe visual problems.

Echocardiograph Technologist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)

• The Echocardiograph Technologist identifies and records anomalies indicative of disease, injury, or other medically significant condition from ultrasound imaging and simultaneous records of the Doppler.
• Change and develop sounding techniques to accommodate such variables as limited patient mobility, variation in physical condition or dimensions of the patient, presence of prosthesis or foreign objects, and ultrasonic response to different body parts.
• Produce diagnostic quality images and Doppler frequency recordings using M-mode, two-dimensional, and continuous and pulse wave Doppler and color flow exam.
• Assist physicians in performing transesophageal echocardiograms for outpatient, inpatient, and intra operative procedures.
• Assist Cardiology fellows in performing and interpreting echo exams and present information to the interpreting physicians.
• Perform stress echocardiograms with and without pharmaceuticals.
• The Echocardiograph Technologist uses problem-solving skills to optimize the evaluation and adjust the exams to ensure that they are comprehensive and accurate.
• Use independent judgment in applying knowledge of clinical cardiology and ultrasound, and Doppler principles.
• Independently set, calibrate, and operate all echocardiography machinery/equipment.
• Have intimate knowledge of thoracic anatomy and physiology as related to cardiovascular.
• function.
• The Echocardiograph Technologist receives patients and explain procedures to patients and family members.

Echocardiograph Technologist - REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT).
• Experience: Minimum two-year experience in specialty.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• License: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required.
• Registration by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
