Managing Director, Buyside

Crux is the capital markets platform changing the way clean energy and manufacturing projects are financed in the U.S. Crux's platform, market intelligence, and expert team help developers and manufacturers unlock financing through all stages of project development and operation.

Our team of 50+ is composed of experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology. We have raised $77 million in capital from some of the best investors.

Energy demand is growing for the first time in 20 years, driven by surging manufacturing, transportation, electrification, and data centers. Simultaneously, hundreds of billions of dollars are being invested in domestic supply chains for critical minerals and components. Developers and manufacturers will require trillions of dollars in capital to meet growing needs.

Unfortunately, the capital markets supporting this transformation remain opaque, fragmented, and complex. At Crux, we recognized the missing infrastructure : a central capital markets platform designed specifically for the next century of American energy and industry. By connecting counterparties, providing market intelligence, and streamlining transactions, we unlock faster decision making, lower cost of capital, and accelerated investment.

The Opportunity

We are adding a Managing Director, Buyside to our Markets & Transactions team, reporting to our Head of Buyside, to rapidly scale the network of buyers and execute more transactions.

What You'll Do

  • Develop long-term client relationships with tax and finance leaders at the largest F250 tax credit buyers
  • Build net new relationships for Crux through conferences, networking, outreach, our extensive partnerships, and inbound
  • Be a trusted expert in the market by speaking on webinars, on panels at conferences, and more
  • Serve as a trusted partner to transact, helping them build and execute on their tax credit purchase strategy through all stages of transaction
  • Partner with external buyer advisors including legal and tax to navigate complex transaction items
  • Ensure we are partnering year-over-year and expanding our relationships with owned relationships
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert on technical topics related to tax credits
  • Contribute to and lead the development of new offerings for our most strategic partners
  • Champions the creation of and adoption of intellectual property
  • Partner with product and customer success teams to ensure tax and finance teams get maximal benefit out of the Crux technology platform

Who You Are

  • 12+ years of experience in tax, accounting, legal practice, and / or tax advantaged investing
  • Proven track record building and owning long-term client relationships with tax and finance teams at large corporations from scratch
  • Comfortable and confident with cold outreach, conference participation and public speaking
  • Strong collaborative and team orientation
  • Unrivaled relationship building skills; you build trust quickly and communicate clearly
  • Excited about the idea of a rapid-growth environment with a lot of autonomy, flexibility
  • You're not afraid to roll-up your sleeves and build things yourself
  • Willing to travel, 25%

  • What We Bring

  • $77m raised from top investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, Canapi, and others.
  • Healthcare : We cover 100% of premiums for employees with a variety of plans on Aetna (nationwide) and Kaiser (WA and California) and subsidize $400 for dependents (total as a group), if relevant. Dental & vision : We cover 100% of premiums for employees and 50% for dependents (each), if relevant.
  • Holidays : 10 company holidays per year Paid time off : 20 days per year
  • 401k : We support a 401k account but don't have a matching program set up at this time (typical for an early-stage startup).
  • Regular all-team onsites 3 times / year.
  • Compensation = base salary in the $200k's / $300k's with an annual performance bonus and a company wide bonus tied to revenue goals = 50-75% of base. As well as equity in the form of stock options.
