This is a hands-on field and lab support role ideal for individuals with an interest in biology, ecology, entomology, or environmental science

Work Schedule:

7-8 hours per week

Other Work/Responsibilities:

• Drive to field sites across Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties (mileage reimbursed).
• Collect and label armored-scale infested foliage samples from designated locations.
• Perform microscopic insect counts using a provided microscope.
• Record data accurately and maintain sample integrity.
• Communicate findings and field conditions with project lead in a timely manner

Minimum Experience/Education:

Department Required Skills:

• Ability to work independently and follow detailed protocols.
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Strong attention to detail and data recording accuracy.
• Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and handle plant/insect materials.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

Coursework or background in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field preferred but not required
