Position Summary

The Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, Media & Arts (HSSMA) invites applications for a full-time, a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of English at Morehouse College. We seek a specialist in Creative Writing with a sub specialization in British Literature (Romanticism). This faculty member will have the primary responsibility of teaching freshman composition (English 101, 102, or 103) and may occasionally teach introductory-level courses in the English major, according to the candidate's areas of specialization, sub specialization, and the department's needs. This position requires the advisement of majors and service to the department. In all courses, the faculty member will be asked to provide classroom instruction that integrates issues of social and racial justice. We are looking for someone who thinks creatively about their teaching, engages in scholarship, and can be committed to the mission of Morehouse College-to develop men with disciplined minds who lead lives of leadership and service by emphasizing the intellectual and character development of its students and by assuming a special responsibility for teaching the history and culture of Black people.

An official transcript will be required of the selected candidate. The application deadline is October 1, 2025. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026. Candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, and statement of teaching philosophy. Applicants are also asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting Black men and men of color from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to accomplish curricular goals. The successful candidate will be expected to support the College's general education curriculum.

The preferred qualification for this position is a PhD in either Creative Writing or English. Teaching experience is preferred for junior candidates. Senior candidates must show evidence of substantial teaching experience and evidence of scholarly or creative work in the field of specialization.

  • Experience teaching within an online learning management system.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and methods of student assessment.
  • Ability to convey complex ideas and techniques.
  • Computer literacy and instructional technology skills.
