Possession of CPR and AED certifications (or ability to obtain within six months after hire). Possession of a National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months after hire). Demonstrated experience and understanding of related public safety and law enforcement operations. Strong human relations and communications skills. Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals from diverse organizations and backgrounds. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make timely decisions. Ability to pass the Salt Lake City Police Department's Civilian Response Training Program including classroom instruction, field work, and vehicle operations. Two (2) or more years as a Community Response Specialist, or in a similar public safety or first responder role. Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role within a government or private sector position. Familiarity with the AFSCME Memorandum of Understanding. Strong knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Completion of certifications such as : Roadway Incident Response Safety Leadership Innovative Responder Safety Strategies FEMA ICS 300 and 400 Moderately heavy physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium heavy weights. Difficult working conditions. Must stand, walk or sit uncomfortably for extended periods. Moderate exposure to various weather conditions. While this position is directed towards low hazards calls for service, such incidents can be unpredictable. As a result, there is potential exposure to hazardous situations. Considerable exposure to stressful situations as a result of unpredictable human behavior. In field operations, exposure to stress as well as occupational hazards is of considerable magnitude. Required to work irregular hours in addition to regularly scheduled shift on an as needed basis. May require holiday, weekend, and evening hours. Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, and workspace restrictions.
Community Response Team Supervisor
Under the direction of a Police Lieutenant, the Community Response Team Supervisor serves as a key member of the department's leadership team. This role provides daily supervision and support to Community Response Specialists, oversees training and staffing, coordinates special operations and events, and actively contributes to the team's operational workload. The Supervisor responds to low-hazard, generally non-emergency service calls that do not require sworn police authority. They may assist sworn officers by supporting crime prevention efforts, enhancing community safety, and documenting incidents in general offense reports.
Typical Duties :
- Provide direct supervision to Community Response Specialists, including conducting briefings, assigning tasks, reviewing reports, and approving schedules, leave, and overtime.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, offer coaching, and recommend corrective or disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Identify training needs and deliver or coordinate onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.
- Communicate updates and directives from department leadership to team members.
- Collaborate closely with the sworn Salt Lake City Police Department personnel and follow proper emergency procedures during incidents.
- Support recruitment and hiring processes; assist with team scheduling and onboarding of new employees.
- Serve as a liaison with other government entities and community groups; coordinate response efforts during emergencies.
- Act as the primary point of contact for program-related questions, guidance, and decision-making.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into complaints involving Community Response personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned
