Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies. By joining the Emergency Department team at Mercy Hospital as a Paramedic, you will assess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions. You will interact with other caregivers and be given directions on tasks to complete such as inserting IV lines, EKGs, assisting with patient transfers, and administering patient medications. Taking on this opportunity will help assist in patient flow and efficiency in the Emergency Department, which takes tasks off of the busy nursing staff. A caregiver in this position works variable days between 3 : 00PM - 3 : 30AM, including rotating weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will :

• Provide duties that assist in providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Obtain and record vital signs.
• Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
• Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygen therapy and saline locks.
• Notify the RN and / or physician of rhythm changes.
• Apply orthopaedic appliances and simple splints.
• Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
• Assist with equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
• Assist with restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
• Transport patients and specimens.
• Assist with sterile procedures and cleaning and maintaining supplies and equipment.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
• Perform fluid / drug administration.

Pay Range Minimum hourly : $22.00 Maximum hourly : $32.00 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
