Thoracic Surgeon Job Details

Location : Richmond, VA 23226 (Virginia healthcare jobs)

Setting : Hospital-based, acute care surgery

Start Date : December 22, 2025

Assignment Duration : 13 weeks (potential to extend)

Shift : 24-hour call (7a-7a); flexible schedule as needed

Operating Rooms : 21 state-of-the-art ORs

EMR : EPIC electronic medical records

Patient Demographic : Adult and geriatric patients

Estimated Weekly Hours : 36

Estimated Weekly Salary : $6,390 - $7,560

Thoracic Surgeon Qualifications

Board Certified in Thoracic Surgery (required)

Active Virginia medical license (required for Virginia thoracic surgeon jobs)

BLS and ACLS certifications (required)

Minimum 1 year of thoracic surgery experience

Local healthcare providers preferred (mileage reimbursement only)

Thoracic Surgeon Responsibilities

Deliver 24-hour call coverage for thoracic surgery cases in a hospital setting

Perform advanced thoracic procedures, including :

Bronchoscopy, Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery, Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS)

Navigational Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

Tube Thoracostomy, Tracheostomy, Pericardial Window

Thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, Mediastinoscopy, Segmentectomy, Lobectomy, Bilobectomy, Pneumonectomy

Thoracotomy, Decortication, and other complex thoracic procedures

Manage cases involving lung cancer, esophageal cancer, chest wall tumors, pleural effusion, and related thoracic conditions

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OR, ICU, and hospitalist staff to ensure high-quality patient care

Accurately document all patient care in the EPIC EMR system
