Surgical Outcomes Research - Faculty

The Department of Surgery at Rush University Medical Center is currently recruiting Surgical Outcomes Research Faculty . This position requires a degree. This is a unique opportunity to join a team of expert clinicians while independently developing the framework for a comprehensive and collaborative research program. Preferred Skills & Degree, preferably in Epidemiology or life sciences

• Experience with large data sets and/or qualitative research is preferred, but not required.
• Ideal candidate will be motivated, organized, and interested in program development

Job Duties

• Partner with surgeons, residents, and medical students to analyze research ideas and hypotheses in a variety of research areas/sub-specialties
• Pursue and pilot personal research interests with support from department Chairperson and Vice Chair of Research
• Utilize large data sets through programs such as NSQIP, NCDB, PearlDiver, and other Insurance/CMS databases
• Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs and personally participates in major medical or scientific research projects, including development and implementation of research protocols.
• Reviews and analyzes resulting research data, revises techniques or approaches to work problems as indicated as necessary by research data.
• Compiles, writes, and submits project results to external and internal audiences.
• Prepares or assists in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as one of co-authors.
• Designs, develops or adapts methodologies to obtain results.
• Apply for sources of internal and external funding.
• Prepare and deliver presentations at national and international conferences to large audiences.
• Confers with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research project.
• May supervise employees, trainees and medical students engaged in performance of technical and professional research work, which varies from routine to complex work tasks.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
