Job Description Summary

The Department of Social Work at Chicago State University (CSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, beginning Fall 2026.

Chicago State University (CSU), is the oldest public university in the Chicago metropolitan area. Chicago State University is Illinois’ only four-year U.S. Department of Education-designated Predominantly Black Institution (PBI). CSU serves over 1,500 undergraduate students and nearly 900 graduate students. Required Education Required Qualifications

• Earned PhD in Social Work or a related field (e.g., Public Policy, Sociology, Public Health) by the time of appointment.
• MSW from a CSWE-accredited program.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
• Evidence of a strong commitment to cultural humility, equity, and inclusion.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Job Responsibilities

• Teach across the social work curriculum, with primary responsibilities in macro practice, research methods, policy, and advanced administration/program planning courses.
• Deliver courses in in-person, hybrid, and online formats at the graduate level.
• Advise and mentor MSW students, with opportunities to guide field education and applied research projects.
• Conduct and publish research in peer-reviewed outlets and pursue external funding.
• Engage in service activities at the departmental, college, university, professional, and community levels.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of post-MSW practice experience in social work.
• Experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
• A well-defined, promising research agenda aligned with macro practice, administration, and program planning.
• Evidence of securing or potential to secure external funding.
• Demonstrated background in practice across all levels of social work—micro, mezzo, and macro.
• Commitment to community-engaged scholarship with meaningful impact on diverse and historically marginalized populations.
