The Principal Applied Scientist will drive the scientific vision for AI systems. The role requires tackling intrinsically hard, previously unsolved problems while balancing rapid innovation with reliability and compliance. You should be comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and driving solutions in ambiguous problem spaces. You'll work closely with senior technical leaders within the team and across AWS. We're looking for scientists who can maintain high standards while moving quickly, prioritizing both rapid experimentation and responsible AI development to deliver measurable customer impact.

Responsibilities

• Drive the scientific vision of teams in the organization and advise technical leadership on scientific challenges
• Initiate and lead the design and delivery of science solutions that address significantly large or endemic customer and business problems
• Propose innovative solutions to intrinsically hard, previously unsolved problems
• Influence the organization towards adopting new approaches, concepts, and paradigms
• Mentor and develop other scientists, fostering a culture of scientific excellence

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400 / year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits.
