Essential Job Duties :
The Operating Room Technician demonstrates knowledge of the step-by-step progress of specific surgical procedures for all surgical services. Anticipates surgeon's needs in regards to instrumentation, sutures, sponges, supplies, etc. Displays dexterity in the use of the required instrumentation according to technique, procedure and special requirements. Demonstrates ability to function in intra-operative situations requiring in-depth technical expertise and knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Anticipates instrumentation/equipment for a wide range of simple and complex surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instrumentation, sutures, sponges, and supplies consistent with surgeon's preference. Surgical environment is set up and organized prior to patient's arrival into room. Knowledge of preparing and maintaining a sterile field. Knowledge of instrumentation and supplies necessary for specialty surgical procedures.
Qualifications Certified Surg Tech
- Two (2) years operating room experience in an acute care facility required
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Graduated from an accredited Operating Room Technician Program
- National Surgical Technician certification required
- Current BLS (AHA) certification
Non Certified Surg Techs
- Minimum of one (1) year recent operating room experience as a Surgical Tech. This year may include time spent as a student in an Acute Care setting, and/or time spent in an accredited Operating Room Technician program
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Graduated from an accredited Operating Room Technician Program
- National Surgical Technician certification, recommended
- Current BLS (AHA) certification
