Teaching duties include undergraduate general music courses, and other courses as determined by the School of Music. Musicians with all types of commercial music experience, especially voice, piano, music technology and business, are encouraged to apply. The accomplishments of candidates for this position must reflect their commitment to working with a promising student population, and their ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the academic goals of the university. Minimum Position Qualifications Master’s degree in music or related field must be completed by the employee start date. Evidence of prior teaching experience and student successes is preferred.

The University of Memphis is a comprehensive metropolitan research university located in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the most musically active communities in the Mid-South. The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and has a full-time faculty of 44 with approximately 430 music majors. Degree programs include : Bachelor of Music in performance, music history, composition, music education, music business, recording technology, jazz and studio music performance, jazz and studio music composition / arranging; Master of Music in performance, musicology, Orff-Schulwerk, music education, pedagogy, jazz and studio music, composition and conducting; Doctor of Philosophy in musicology and music education; Doctor of Musical Arts in performance, composition, and conducting. A graduate certificate, the Artist Diploma in Music, is also offered. The School of Music is housed in the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
The Music and Entertainment concentration is a satellite of the Commercial Music department at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. Students in this concentration earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Entertainment. It is a program fusing general music studies, music business, music technology, and performance practices together. The concentration is designed to also provide students with the fundamentals and knowledge to gain employment in the entertainment field.
