Job Description Summary
The CARE program’s goal is for Columbia’s youth to be ready to enter the workforce and become productive, self-sufficient citizens. Since 1982, the CARE program has provided comprehensive services for Columbia’s 14- to 20-year-old youth that include:
• Job readiness training
• Paid real-world hands-on work experience
• Mentoring
• Soft skills development
• Career exploration
CARE Job Coaches may work between five and 28 hours per week. Job Coach schedules are flexible with weekday daytime and early evening hours available. Job Coaches can work around most other schedules.
Duties include:
• Answering telephones
• Greeting the public
• Assisting applicants with online applications, making resumes and cover letters, obtaining letters of recommendation, and practice interviewing
• Scheduling interviews
• Co-interviewing (with another interviewer) and scoring interviews
• Assisting trainees with hiring paperwork
• Assisting with trainings
• Assisting with orientations
• Assisting with worksite placement
• Providing support for worksite supervisors and trainees as needed
• Entering trainees’ time into financial computer program
• Scoring surveys, compiling survey results, compiling pre-test/post-test results, and assisting with the assembling of the annual report
• Recruiting new worksites for the next summer Minimum Qualifications Applicants for this position must:
• be at least 18 years of age
• be a high school graduate (or equivalent)
• be organized
• have accurate record keeping skills
• have excellent attention to detail skills
• be able to follow directions and meet deadlines
• have excellent customer service/customer relation skills
• have strong communication skills
• be responsible and reliable
• have a strong work ethic
• have a positive attitude
• be able to focus in a small office with lots of distractions
• be an exemplary role model for youth
• be able to help motivate youth
• be able to exercise sound judgment and decision making in complex situations
• have experience working with “at-risk” teens (preferred; not required)
• have completed college coursework in Human Resources, Social Work, Community Services, Human Development/Family Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a related field (preferred; not required) Supervision Exercised None.
