Description : The Organization :

Founded in 1846 to care for the children of sailors in the Port of New York, Seamen's Society for Children and Families ("Seamen’s Society”) was one of the first organizations in the US to care for abandoned children in family settings, rather than institutions. Today, Seamen's Society is a comprehensive $28 million nonprofit organization that offers foster care and adoption services, mental and behavioral health care services, prevention / family stabilization services, domestic violence intervention services, a health home care management program, education financial support, a childcare center, and a youth tutoring program. The agency's 200+ professionals serve over 1,250 children and over 500 families in New York City. Programs are conducted in a trauma-informed, caring manner that understands and embraces the diversity of the communities served by the organization.

Job Summary :

Responsible for identifying and recruiting qualified foster parents to provide safe, nurturing, and supportive homes for children and youth in the Enhanced Family Foster Care program. Engages with the community, conducting outreach, and ensuring all prospective foster homes follow NYSOCFS regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for developing new EFFC foster homes and identifying foster parents with an increased focus on prospective foster parents that are interested in working with teens and sibling groups.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract potential foster / adoptive parents through community events, social media, and partnerships with schools, faith-based organizations to increase awareness of the need for foster homes.
  • Responsible for scheduling monthly recruitment events.
  • Conduct initial screenings and orientation for prospective foster parents.
  • Respond to inquiries and guide applicants through the licensing process. Tracks all inquiries from agency / community recruitment events, ACS WISHLINE, and BINTI.
  • Responsible data collection and maintaining the confidentiality of all documents and information including scheduling prospective foster parents for fingerprinting, submitting SEL, and SCR clearances.
  • Assists in facilitating NTDC and TRIPP training for prospective foster parents.
  • Attend all ACS, CCP / SICCAN recruitment events, and participate in monthly recruitment events in Staten Island and Brooklyn.
  • Assists in coordinating foster parent retention events, including but not limited Foster Parent Recognition and holiday parties.
  • Achieves monthly recruitment targets set by the Home Finding Director

Requirements :

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities :

  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Microsoft 365 proficiency and knowledge of Connections
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Qualifications / Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, or related field.
  • Knowledge of NYS OCFS foster boarding home licensing regulations
  • Work schedule hours may vary, flexibility to work weekends and evenings.
  • Due to the nature of the work environment, work hours will be based on the needs to the program and may vary.
  • Performs other duties / responsibilities as assigned within the scope of position.
  • Our Agency operates in 2 locations : Staten Island and Brooklyn. The ability to travel between sites is necessary.
