Nurse Manager
The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing, is seeking a Nurse Manager to provide managerial and clinical leadership to inpatient unit to assure that all staff provide safe clinical care and have the education, methods and resources to accomplish their performance objectives. The Vascular and Neuroscience Intermediate and Acute Care Unit (2 RCP) is a 34-bed intermediate acute care unit specializing in comprehensive, head-to-toe, compassionate care for adult neurology, neurosurgical, and vascular surgery patients. These patients may need telemetry or intensive neurological monitoring or both. We provides care for patients with the following conditions :
- Neuro stroke
- General neurology
- Neurointerventional radiology (neuro IR)
- Vascular specialties
Key areas of responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Hire, develop and manage the performance of staff in perioperative setting. Responsible for talent management of staff and identify succession plan strategies. Follow and apply leave management policies. Knowledgeable of and implement human resources policies / procedures and provisions in the collective bargaining agreementsPrepare budget or assist in development; provide projections and recommendations. Monitor and maintain unit / clinic operating budget within specified targets. Analyze variances and create action plans to take corrective action. Understand financial implications of collective bargaining agreementsProvide leadership to establish and / or maintain efficient and effective systems to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Identify trends and determine quality initiatives and prioritiesAllocate resources to meet quality and productivity expectations. Review patient satisfaction data and develop, implement, and evaluate plan(s) to enhance patient satisfaction. Ensure unit / clinic is survey readyAssess care coordination within multidisciplinary team to maximize patient satisfaction and continuity of care. Identify needs, trends, and forecasts in order to provide quality patient care and ensure appropriate flex staffingDevelop action plans for the unit / clinic or division that meets health care strategic goalsMonitor / evaluate goal implementation and provide progress reports to nursing leadershipAdvocate for needs of unit / clinic with healthcare leaders. Facilitate multidisciplinary participation in clinical problem solving. Utilize unit councils to identify opportunities for improvement and innovative models of care using a multidisciplinary team to impact patient outcomesEducate and mentor staff in the management of complex patient care issues. Provide clinical education and coaching to develop staff competency and professionalism. Participate in and support education of health care studentsEncourage staff to participate in evidence-based practice research initiatives and incorporate best practices into unit operationsAbility to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, nationalities, genders, ages, etcAbility to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals / needs. Bachelor's or Master's in Nursing is required. Preferred Master's degree (in nursing, MBA or healthcare related) or Doctorate (DNP, PhD). If candidate does not have a Master's Degree they will be strongly encouraged to obtain one within 5 years of starting positionCurrent license to practice nursing in IowaExperience Qualifications
3+ years of nursing leadership and management experienceDemonstrated skill in leadership / managementCurrent experience in intermediate or critical care clinical practice. 3-5 years of experience is preferredProfessional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work / academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do soExcellent written and verbal communication skills are requiredMust be proficient in computer software applicationsCertification in a role or specialty through a nationally recognized professional nursing certification body.
