Lincoln Land Community College is seeking a full-time, 9-month English Instructor to join our dedicated faculty starting Fall 2026. This position will teach introductory writing courses (Composition I, Composition II, and the English Corequisite). Courses are offered on the LLCC main campus in Springfield IL, the LLCC Medical District location in downtown Springfield IL, and Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, IL, Taylorville, IL and Litchfield, IL. The instructor is expected to teach face-to-face offerings; online teaching options will not be provided. Duties will include teaching 15 contact hours per semester of assigned classes; preparing lessons and course syllabi; evaluating and assisting students; keeping accurate records of student performance, including following grading procedures; providing students with timely feedback; maintaining office hours; participating in departmental/institutional operations and program review; creating a learning environment that fosters student success; developing, integrating, evaluating and reviewing student learning outcomes in support of the College’s ongoing accreditation; and contributing to a collegial and collaborative work environment. The Department of Humanities, Arts, Communication and English has 27 full-time faculty members and offers classes in English composition, literature, creative writing, art, music, integrated media design, humanities, journalism, philosophy, and world languages.

Evening hours may be required and opportunities exist for overload. The College provides an excellent fringe benefit package and is supportive of faculty development.

The Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) district comprises all or part of 15 counties in central/central southern Illinois and covers 4,115 square miles making it the largest geographic community college district in the State of Illinois. The college’s main campus is located in Springfield, Illinois. LLCC serves approximately 17,000 individuals annually through credit and non-credit courses at its Springfield campus, as well as at education service area sites throughout the district and online.

Full-time faculty members teach 15 credit hours for load each fall and spring semester with small class sizes and the potential to teach additional courses during the summer term. LLCC employs face-to-face, online, hybrid, and remote instructional modalities and offers courses in 16-week and 8- week formats. LLCC faculty, their spouse and qualified dependent children are eligible to use the tuition waiver on credited courses. Faculty can also enjoy free access to our on-campus fitness center. Faculty salaries are determined by education level and experience and will be between $51,901 – $93,337. Below are the salary ranges for each level of education. Additional compensation beyond base salary can be earned through extra teaching assignments during the academic year and in the summer, as well as coordinator assignments.Masters: $51,901 – $76,788Masters +15 additional graduate credit hours: $54,499 – $80,627Masters +30 additional graduate credit hours: $57,224 – $84,660Masters +45 additional graduate credit hours: $60,084 – $88,893Doctorate: $63,085 – $93,337

  • Masters degree in English with at least 15 credit hours of graduate coursework in rhetoric/composition studies.
  • Experience teaching introductory composition courses.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with teaching at a community college.
  • Experience teaching neurodiverse students, English language learners, and/or concurrently-enrolled students.
  • Experience teaching English Corequisite or developing writers.
  • Experience with teaching using Canvas and/or other online learning management systems.
  • Experience with other departmental activities such as assessment, program review, curriculum development, and committee service.
Physical Requirements Position Salary Starting salary is determined by education level and experience and will be between $51,901 – $93,337.

Employees do not have to pay a monthly premium.Voluntary life insuranceSupplemental term-life insurance, including accidental death and dismemberment coverage, is available for employees at the employees’ expense.Dependent life insuranceSupplemental term-life insurance, including accidental death and dismemberment coverage, for an employee’s spouse and/or dependent children (within age guidelines) is available for purchase.Critical illness and cancer insuranceEmployees can purchase this coverage for themselves and their family. This benefit helps protect employees and their families from financial loss by providing lump-sum benefits upon diagnosis of a covered critical illness, including cancer.Accident insuranceEmployees can purchase this coverage for themselves and their family. While health plans may cover direct costs associated with an accident, you can use this accident benefit to help cover related expenses like lost income, child care, deductibles and copays.Long-Term disability insuranceEmployees may elect to pay for long-term disability insurance which could potentially pay up to 65% of their base monthly salary. In the event you become disabled from a non-work-related injury or sickness, disability income benefits may partially replace lost income.Hospital indemnity insuranceThis plan offers hospitalization benefits for you, your spouse and/or your child(ren). When you face a hospital stay, you can receive a benefit to help pay unexpected expenses not covered by your health plan. Unreimbursed medical accountLLCC offers a tax-free method for employees to place money aside and use it to pay for out-of-pocket family medical dental and vision expenses. You have a choice to join the unreimbursed medical account if you enroll in the Open Access Health Insurance Plan or if you choose to decline LLCC medical insurance. If an employee declines health insurance coverage, LLCC will make an annual contribution of $500 into an unreimbursed medical spending account with no contribution required by the employee. If the employee wishes to contribute more than $500 of their own money to the account, LLCC will match the contribution, not to exceed $1,650.Dependent care flexible spending accountDCAP is a pre-tax benefit account used to pay for eligible dependent care services. It’s a smart and simple way to save money while taking care of your loved ones so you can continue to work.Health Savings Account (HSA)Employees on the HDHP will be assigned a health savings account through HealthEquity. LLCC will contribute a total of $3,100 to your HSA during fiscal year 2026. This contribution will be made in two installments – July 15, 2025, and Jan. 15, 2026. The dollar amount of the installment will be based on your active employment during the six-month installment period. This tax-free contribution can be used to offset your out-of-pocket costs related to health, dental and vision expenses. Retirement planThe State Universities Retirement System (SURS) covers LLCC employees. SURS contributions are deducted on a pre-tax basis. The employee may choose from three different retirement plans. SURS does not coordinate with Social Security and, consequently, there is no payroll deduction for FICA. However, there is a payroll deduction requirement of 1.45% of gross wages for Medicare.Deferred compensationLLCC offers employees the opportunity to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation plan. We offer a 403(b) plan, 457 plan, Roth IRA (not tax deferred) and a no-load profile plan.LLCC tuition waiverStarting or continuing education is highly valued at LLCC. Benefit-eligible employees, their spouses and qualified dependents are eligible to use a tuition waiver which waives the standard tuition and fees for LLCC credited courses.Educational assistanceBenefit-eligible employees have access to up to $3,000 per year towards tuition at another educational institution, textbooks, workshops, seminars, and conferences. Additionally, certification and re-certification for professional organizations may also be eligible. Class release timeTo accommodate an employee work schedule, paid time can be requested to attend classes by submitting an approved Class Release Time form. This release time is only available to attend face-to-face LLCC classes.Employee Assistance Program (EAP) servicesLLCC’s Employee Assistance Program provides free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, prevention and education services for you and your dependents.Credit unionLLCC is affiliated with the Illinois Educators Credit Union. All closed days will be paid days.Note: There are some exceptions for Facilities Services Union positions, and LLCC-Medical District and Child Development Center staff.
