Who We Are

We are Tennis! The USTA (United States Tennis Association) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the leader in promoting and developing the sport's growth on every level in the United States, from local communities to the crown jewel of the professional game, the US Open.

Why Work for the USTA?

We are a passionate team of staff and volunteers focused on growing the sport of tennis and making it accessible to all. We are committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for ALL to participate. Don't know tennis? Don't worry, you can still find yourself in the game!

The Role

Manage and evolve the AMS as the central hub of actionable player data. This role involves collaborating with coaches, administrative staff, and performance staff to effectively utilize the AMS in tracking and managing athlete data. The Director of Sport Science & Performance Data will analyze this data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive informed decision-making and contribute to a comprehensive approach to athlete development. Lead R&D efforts to generate predictive insights for resource deployment and coaching education

Managing the AMS: Facilitate the operation of the AMS to maximize the ability to impact performance with insight from multiple data sources, including sport science testing protocols (e.g., training load, wellness, recovery) that complement existing S&C testing and performance metrics.

Daily Athlete Monitoring: Implement and manage the daily wellness, perceived exertion (RPE), and internal/external load monitoring protocols for transitional and early-pro athletes.
  • AMS Integration: Ensure all sport science data (e.g., GPS, heart rate variability) is accurately captured, processed, and visualized within the Athlete Management System (AMS).
  • Data Reporting: Provide weekly reports on squad readiness, fatigue levels, and training compliance to the Head S&C Coach and National Coaches to inform training adjustments. Analyze athlete performance data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Develop visualizations and reports to effectively communicate insights to coaches and athletes.

Integrated Support: Work with the Performance Analytics team and Strength & Conditioning coaches to integrate physiological and performance data into a comprehensive player profile.

  • Inter-Departmental Collaboration: Work with the Lead Physical Therapist, medical and S&C staff to integrate injury prevention and rehab protocols with performance strategies
  • Education: Conduct internal coaching education for analytics and other developmental aspects, including player health and wellness (e.g., hydration, heat rules).
  • Player Support: Travel to select events and camps (as demanded by S&C) to provide on-site sport science support for competition readiness and recovery

Applied Research & Development: Lead applied R&D projects to monitor performance trends and develop predictive insights across the entire pathway (ID to early-pro).

  • Lead Innovation Projects: Act as Project Manager for Innovation projects that use technology to measure player performance and or load and volume, mirroring a current Manager duty and aligning with Director-level duties.
  • Predictive Modeling: Develop and manage predictive models using longitudinal athlete data to forecast injury risk, monitor fatigue, and inform strategic deployment of resources.*
  • Trends Analysis: Monitor and research global trends in sports science, physical preparation, and tennis-specific training to ensure USA tennis practices remain world-class.

Coaching Education: Support High Performance coaching internally, and consult with USTA Coaching initiatives for professional development and quality assurance. This may include developing and presenting educational content for coaches, players, and parents on topics like recovery, load management, and other relevant areas of insight.

Who You Are
  • Master's Degree in Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in applied sport science with elite athletes. Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, similar to Performance Analytics) and Athlete Management Systems (AMS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and communicate data insights effectively. Knowledge of sports performance principles and training methodologies.
  • This position is designated as"Onsite" in Orlando.
