The Adult Education Teacher is responsible for the High School Equivalency (HSE) instruction of clients impacted by the criminal/legal system. Classes will primarily be held in county jails for men and women but may also take place in classroom or community settings post-release. Areas of instruction include Literacy and/or HSE classes in the subject areas of Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science for the attainment of a General Education Development (GED) diploma.
Adult Education Teachers provide instruction and work in collaboration with Women's Justice Program staff and partners as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide social service functions that help clients who are incarcerated or at risk of incarceration access the resources they need to avoid further criminal legal involvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required. Oklahoma Teaching Certification or the ability to obtain prior to employment start. Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person served to live in normal community residences; and have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services. Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with mental illnesses and/or substance abuse issues and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential. Must possess a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record and use personal automobile to travel to locations other than primary office.
