JOB SUMMARY

This position is for a Patient Care Technician whose responsibility is to provide direct nursing activities for patients receiving therapeutic and diagnostic services in the Medical Surgical Services Department, in accordance with accreditation standards, federal, state and local regulations, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Participates in activities that ensure the safe and efficient provision of services to neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient populations, refers unusual clinical problems to the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. Duties shall be based on the PCT's recognized skill level. The position reports to the Director of the Medical Surgical Services Department.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1. Minimum level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of coursework from an NLN Accredited Registered Professional Nursing Program to equal a semester in a fundamentals of nursing course, or completion of a Patient Care Technician, Medical Assistant, Medical Specialist or related field of advanced study preferred.

2. Formal Training: First semester nursing clinical or verified on the job training (OJT) preferred.

3. Licensure, Certifications & Registration: Appropriate documentation from school/instructor, or certification or verified OJT. BLS certification required.

4. Work Experience: First semester of nursing clinical. Basic knowledge of the nursing process. Basic computer skills.
