The Coordinator-Dialysis Treatment is a Registered Nurse (RN) that reports to the Director, Outpatient Dialysis Services, and utilizes discretion and independent judgment in providing direct patient care, supervision and oversight of a healthcare team of licensed and unlicensed staff during an assigned shift in one of the largest hospital-based outpatient adult dialysis centers in Southern California. Makes patient and staff assignments and performs direct patient care activities outside the scope of practice for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs)/Certified Hemodialysis Technicians (CHTs), e.g., assessments, specified medication administration. Collaborates with the leadership team to ensure continuity of care is provided from shift-to-shift during hours of operation. Ensures dialysis patients are managed and treated in accordance with physician orders, approved standards of practice, and Network 18 regulations during the three phases of treatment (pre-treatment, intra treatment, post treatment). Serves as a role model for outpatient hemodialysis care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates advanced level of clinical practice. Serves as a mentor to the team to bring them to a high level of clinical competency within their scope of practice and provides a positive influence to facilitate change. Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements specific to end-stage renal disease. Participates in department quality improvement initiatives to meet established benchmarks. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Associate's Degree in Nursing required. Minimum two years of clinical experience in end-stage renal disease required. Minimum one year of team leader or shift coordinator experience preferred. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical hemodialysis activities. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English (and Spanish preferred) in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.
