Job Description
· Writes and edits technically complex documents related to NSF programs, policies, and scientific initiatives.
· Translates scientific, technical, and policy information into clear, plain-language content for non-expert audiences.
· Drafts and edits guidance documents, reports, fact sheets, policy summaries, and web content.
· Conducts detailed editorial reviews to ensure clarity, consistency, structure, and technical accuracy.
· Collaborates directly with scientists, program officials, and policy staff to validate content accuracy.
· Ensures all written products comply with AP Style, NSF style guidelines, Plain Writing Act, and Section 508 requirements.
· Supports content development for potentially sensitive or high-visibility topics.
· Provides quality control and final editorial review prior to publication.
Education Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications, Science, or a closely related field; or
· Equivalent professional experience.
Experience Requirements
· Minimum 5 years of professional technical writing and editing experience.
· At least 3 years of experience writing about scientific, technical, or policy subject matter.
· Demonstrated experience conducting research and fact-checking with subject-matter experts.
· Strong experience editing complex documents for clarity and accessibility.
· Experience supporting federal agencies or research organizations preferred.
