POSITION SUMMARY:
The Set-up Machinist is responsible for accurately and efficiently setting up a CNC machine to run parts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Set-up Machinist is accountable for the following functions and responsibilities:
• Set up or changeover of machine to include tool/insert selection.
• Retrieve programmed instructions from machines as needed.
• Verify that the program matches the print part number and current revision.
• Read, measure, calculate, evaluate, and complete product quality and dimensional requirements as defined in product blueprints and company’s quality standards.
• Perform first article inspection of operator’s parts to print and ensure that every dimension is within tolerance and/or making sure the right adjustments are made.
• Verify the part count matches the Work Order count and Work Orders receive signatures upon completion.
• Log setups/first articles being worked on in the company’s production management software, when necessary.
• Adjust compensate for malfunctions or out-of-tolerance condition.
• Coordinate efforts with managers and fellow coworkers to improve operational excellence and meet targets.
• Perform to expected work standards for the position (i.e., meeting production targets and quality requirements, etc.).
• Complete necessary documentation and perform normal housekeeping duties as required.
• Always perform job tasks in a safe manner while adhering to the company safety policies and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Maintain required attendance and punctuality as scheduled to meet production goals.
• Manage a clean and productive workstation.
• Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The Set-up Machinist must at a minimum possess the following:
• High school diploma or GED is required. Advanced degree or certificate is preferred.
• Two to five plus years of lathe and mill experience. A diverse background in running different types of machines is preferred.
• Advanced understanding of blueprints and like drawings.
• Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of general mathematics and able to apply the knowledge into practical application.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude skills.
• Ability to set up and operate machines with advanced level of complexity.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, high-pressured, and fast-paced environment.
• Ability to comprehend production requirements.
• Ability to speak, read, and write the English language fluently is preferred.
• Basic computer literacy skills.
• Must be self-motivated and be able to work with minimal supervision while providing leadership to coworkers.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to effectively operate multiple machines at one time.
• Understanding of G&M Programming is required. Advanced understanding of G&M codes is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Set-up Machinist must be able to:
• Lift a minimum of 50lbs, repeatedly, without assistance and up to 100lbs with assistance.
• Push/pull heavy objects with the proper equipment.
• Wear the appropriate PPE when required (i.e., safety glasses or side shields, steel-toe footwear, etc.).
• Stand for long periods of time; up to 8-12 hours a day.
