About Paradromics Brain-related illness is one of the last great frontiers in medicine, not because the brain is unknowable, but because it has been inaccessible.
Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface (BCI) platform that records brain activity at the highest possible resolution:
the individual neuron.
AI algorithms then decode this massive amount of brain data, enabling the seamless translation of thought into treatments. Our first clinical application, the Connexus® BCI, will help people who are unable to speak, due to progressive neuromuscular disease and neural injuries such as ALS, spinal cord injuries and stroke, to communicate independently through digital devices.
However, the capabilities of our BCI platform go far beyond our first application.
With the brain in direct communication with digital devices, we can leverage technology to transform how we treat conditions ranging from sensory and motor deficits to untreatable mental illness. The Role The Field Application Engineer serves as Paradromics’s trusted technical presence at U.S. clinical sites during early feasibility and first-in-human studies, particularly in the early stages of working with new participants and/or new BCI applications.
A core focus of this role is helping evolve our operations from supporting a small number of participants to reliably and efficiently supporting many, through standardization, automation, and scalable workflows.
Reporting to the Principal Applied Scientist, this field-based role acts as a critical bridge between clinicians and engineers—ensuring real-world clinical learnings are documented, clearly communicated, and translated into system, process, and risk-management improvements.
The position requires significant travel to clinical sites and the ability to operate independently in high-stakes, participant-facing environments. Responsibilities Technical execution & signal optimization Working closely with Field Clinical Specialists, scientists, and engineers, plan and execute neural data collection and BCI sessions, particularly at early stages of working with each participant and of testing new BCI applications Assist with setup, fine-tuning, and maintenance of Connexus hardware and software in participant homes, and duplicate test systems at the Oakland and Austin offices Act as the frontline diagnostic expert:
triage, escalate, and resolve complex technical issues, including software bugs, hardware failures, and signal artifacts (noise/impedance issues) in the field Science / engineering feedback loop Compile and summarize clinical observations, system limitations, and session data analyses for presentation to cross-functional “session triage” teams, contributing new data analyses as needed, to enable iterative system improvements Translate real-world usability challenges into action items for the Science and Engineering teams Document "edge cases" in neural decoding or hardware performance to harden the system against real-world variability Scaling & operational excellence Contribute to the streamlining and automation of session setup, data collection, data analysis, and session triage processes Develop SOPs, field guides, training decks, and onboarding materials for technical and clinical staff, and for participants and caregivers Collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical Affairs, Electrical Engineering, and Quality teams to translate R&D-grade tools into a reliable, medical-grade BCI platform Required Education Master’s or Doctorate in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, neuroscience, computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience in neurotechnology) Required Qualifications Hands-on experience conducting data collection with biosignal recording systems, ideally neural signals with human participants Comfort with R&D hardware/software and experience contributing to iterative system improvements Proficiency in Python for time series data analysis (ideally, experience analyzing multi-channel neural signals from BCIs or EEG/ECoG/MEA systems, and experience with basic ML) Clear communication across disciplines; e.g., able to explain technical concepts to clinicians and clinical realities to engineers Demonstrated calm, judgment, and professionalism in high-pressure environments; high EQ High ownership and accountability Trusted to represent the company in the field and to make appropriate decisions within defined guardrails Preferred Qualifications Hands-on technical experience supporting neurotechnology development with human participants Early feasibility or first-in-human clinical study experience Familiarity with small-N studies, and heightened safety and regulatory awareness Working knowledge of GCP, protocol adherence, and the role of field staff within regulated clinical studies Paradromics is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin. Powered by JazzHR
