Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Tele position in a teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation requiring a GA or compact license and strong clinical skills.

Responsibilities

Work in a 16-bed Med / Surg Telemetry unit of a large hospital with Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital status

Typical patient population includes chest pain, syncope, abdominal pain, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, diabetes, and post-op patients

RN patient ratios range from 1 : 4-6

Uses Epic EMR, Alaris pumps, Pyxis system, Phillips monitors, and cardiac telemetry monitoring

Required to float to all adult med / surg and telemetry units as needed

No on-call requirements

12-hour shifts available, both days (7A-7P) and nights (7P-7A)

Weekend rotation involves working 5-6 shifts every 6 weeks

Must work either 12 / 24 or 12 / 25 and 12 / 31 or 1 / 1 as holiday coverage

Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, medication drips titrated to heart rate, IV management, and interdisciplinary care coordination

Support provided by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurse, resource team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists 24 / 7

Orientation includes one day of facility orientation plus two days of departmental training with educational modules

Scrub color for RNs is navy

Unit culture emphasizes teamwork and manages high patient turnover

Requirements

Active GA or compact RN license

Minimum of 2 years Med / Tele RN experience required

Associate's degree in Nursing or higher

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

Basic Cardiac Rhythm test completed during onboarding

Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, IV insertion and maintenance, cardiac monitoring, care coordination, and discharge planning

Strong clinical assessment and time management skills

Epic EMR experience preferred
