Company Description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Job Description

Primary Function of Position

The Senior Product Manager for Telepresence & Media Capabilities will lead the development, strategy, and commercialization of telepresence functionality and integrated media solutions within the da Vinci 5 system portfolio. This role sits within the da Vinci Systems Product Management team and will partner closely with engineering teams responsible for the Hub as well as cross-functional groups spanning clinical, regulatory, commercial, the Gen 4 telepresence/Hub teams and customer success. The individual will own the product strategy, business case development, and release scoping for Hub software, ensuring that telepresence and video capabilities meaningfully enhance surgeon collaboration, training, and case workflow. Success in this role directly influences the evolution of the da Vinci ecosystem and strengthens Initiative’s value proposition in connected, digital-enabled surgery.

Essential Job Duties

  • Define the long-term product vision and strategy for telepresence and media capture features within the dV5 system, including market positioning, pricing, and value proposition.
  • Lead creation of business cases for new telepresence capabilities and Hub software enhancements, integrating customer insights, competitive intelligence, economic models, and clinical workflow needs.
  • Translate product strategy into detailed software release scopes for the Hub platform, working closely with software engineering, systems engineering, and program management to prioritize features and define requirements.
  • Serve as the product owner for telepresence-related features throughout development, ensuring design and implementation meet customer needs, system constraints, and regulatory considerations.
  • Collaborate with the dV5 system team to optimize Hub integrations and ensure seamless functionality between telepresence, media capture, and system workflow.
  • Lead cross-functional readiness and launch planning for new capabilities, partnering with marketing, sales, clinical education, customer success, and operations.
  • Develop pricing strategies, packaging models, and go-to-market plans aligned with Intuitive’s business objectives and customer adoption patterns.
  • Conduct customer research with surgeons, OR staff, hospital IT teams, and training organizations to refine product direction and inform future roadmap decisions.
  • Track product performance in market, monitor adoption, and identify opportunities to improve utilization, user experience, and system integration.
  • Maintain a pulse on digital health trends—remote collaboration, tele-proctoring, tele-mentoring, and media management—to ensure Intuitive’s solutions remain industry-leading.

Qualifications

Required Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, business, or related field; MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of product management experience (or equivalent strategic role) in technology, medical devices, digital health, or enterprise software.
  • Demonstrated experience defining product strategy, scoping software releases, and managing complex technical products from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes and ability to translate customer needs into detailed product requirements for engineering teams.
  • Experience building business cases, including financial modeling, market analysis, and customer insights synthesis.
  • Proven track record of partnering with cross-functional teams, including engineering, marketing, sales, clinical/medical affairs, and regulatory.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with connected device ecosystems, APIs, cloud-enabled services, or media/telepresence platforms strongly preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly technical, and mission-driven environment with competing priorities.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working on products that integrate hardware and software, particularly in regulated environments.
  • Background in telepresence, video streaming, media workflows, or real-time communication technologies.
  • Experience collaborating with hospital IT, cybersecurity, or digital infrastructure teams.
  • Prior experience launching platform APIs or working with API-based integrations.
  • Knowledge of robotic systems, surgical workflows, or clinical education / proctoring models.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive roadmap and commercialization decisions.
  • Familiarity with SaaS or subscription-based pricing models.
  • Prior work in global markets or experience adapting products for diverse regulatory environments and customer needs.
