Grant Accountant

Job Description

Seeking a Grant Accountant to join a growing Los Angeles non-profit!

The Grant Accountant will be tasked with reviewing, monitoring, billing, collecting, and reporting on government (Federal, State, County, City, etc.) and foundation grants assigned to them. Collaboration with relevant department or program personnel is essential to ensure adherence to grant contract terms. Additionally, they must possess familiarity with relevant laws and regulations, including the Uniform Grants Guidance, and demonstrate knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles such as restricted funds accounting.

Qualifications:

• Four-year college degree in accounting, business, or related field
• 3+ years' experience in accounting or related field
• 1 + year working for a non-profit (Ideally 3+ years)
• Advanced Excel skills

Duties:

• Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing the accounting system, particularly focusing on accounts receivable and billing functionalities.
• Maintain a strong grasp of the General Ledger coding system, ensuring accurate allocation across grants, programs, and departments.
• Thoroughly review assigned contracts, paying particular attention to the financial clauses and implications.
• Keep grant budgets updated within the accounting system as required, reflecting any changes accurately.
• Execute and document grant billings according to predetermined schedules and deadlines.
• Generate monthly reports on grant budget actuals to identify and monitor variances effectively.
• Collaborate with relevant department or program staff to track and analyze budget variances as they arise.
• Conduct collections on outstanding grant receivables to minimize aged items and optimize cash flow.
• Act as a liaison with grantors when necessary, ensuring clear communication and compliance with grant requirements.
• Prepare periodic and final grant reports as mandated by deadlines, adhering to specific formatting and content guidelines.
• Provide support in budget adjustments and the formulation of new grant budgets as required.
• Assist in the facilitation of grant audits.
