JOB SUMMARY:

The Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant works collaboratively with a therapist to provide support, guidance, and therapeutic services to individuals in group and individual settings.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Co-facilitation of Group Counseling:

• Assist in facilitation of group counseling sessions that focus on the treatment and recovery of individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders.

• Ensure the group adheres to the therapeutic treatment goals, applying evidence-based therapeutic methods (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, etc.).

• Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment during group interactions.

• Provide Emotional Support:

• Offer empathetic listening and help clients express thoughts, feelings, and experiences related to substance use and recovery.

• Encourage participation from all group members and foster a sense of trust within the group.

• Client Monitoring and Progress Assessment:

• Collaborate with the lead facilitator to track client progress and adjust treatment strategies as needed.

• Observe and document clients’ behaviors, reactions, and improvements during group sessions.

• Assist in creating individualized treatment plans and goals for clients, in coordination with the treatment team.

• Provide individual counseling services, under the direction of a therapist, and document client progress toward treatment plan goals and objectives.

• Provide case management services, as needed, to help connect clients with community resources for additional support.

• Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with therapists, peer supporters, and other healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive treatment.

• Maintain confidentiality and follow all legal and ethical standards related to client care and documentation.

• Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, and clinical consultations to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.

• Crisis Intervention:

• Assist in identifying and addressing potential crises or emotional distress.

• Implement de-escalation techniques and provide immediate support as needed.

• Administrative Support:

• Maintains office supplies inventory by assessing inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, proactively placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.

• Records Management:

• Maintain accurate records and progress notes in compliance with agency policies and applicable regulations.

• Help with intake and assessment processes for new group participants, ensuring proper documentation is completed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

• Ability to understand, speak, read, write in English.

• Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence in English.

• Effectively speak before groups of customers or employees.

• Work all hours required to fulfill job duties and responsibilities (including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed).

• Ability to carry/lift boxes weighing between 10 and 25 pounds.

• Must be able to ascend and descend stairs regularly as part of daily job duties.

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Armada Recovery employees are required to comply all state and federal regulatory and legal requirements. Additionally, all staff members must comply with the Armada Recovery Employee Handbook, any Code of Ethics and all other Armada Recovery policies.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent

LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of CDCA or higher

PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• At least 1-2 years of experience working in a therapeutic or support role with individuals experiencing substance use disorders.

• Experience in group facilitation or counseling is preferred.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to co-facilitate group discussions in a non-judgmental and supportive manner.

• Understanding of evidence-based practices and therapeutic modalities for substance use disorder treatment.

• Ability to complete clinical documentation in an electronic medical record.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

• Crisis management and de-escalation skills.
