Job Summary
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) in the Emergency Room provides direct patient care and behavioral health support to individuals presenting with psychiatric, emotional, or behavioral conditions. The MHT works under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians to ensure patient safety, support therapeutic interventions, and maintain a safe and supportive environment in a fast-paced emergency setting.
Qualifications
Education :
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience :
Prior experience as a Mental Health Technician, Patient Care Technician, or behavioral health aide preferredExperience in an Emergency Room, psychiatric unit, or acute care setting strongly preferredCertifications (Required or Preferred) :
Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association requiredCrisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent de-escalation training preferred or required within a specified timeframeKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of behavioral health conditions and crisis management principlesAbility to remain calm and professional in high-stress situationsStrong observation, communication, and documentation skillsAbility to follow safety protocols and hospital policiesCompassionate, patient-centered approach to careAbility to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary teamPhysical ability to assist with patient mobility and emergency interventionsBilingual (English / Spanish) preferredPhysical Requirements
