Shipping / Receiving Department Supervisor
The purpose of this position is to supervise, coordinate, and be accountable for the daily activities of the Shipping / Receiving Department and Roll Warehouse personnel. This position will also provide traffic planning and transportation arrangements for all company shipment in accordance with Federal, State Commerce Regulations. Support all SQF, AIB, GMP and product safety guidelines and procedures.
Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, he / she has authority to take action and make decisions. The assignment of work or delegation or responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results. Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled.
Functional Responsibilities
Prepares daily bills of lading and other written documents as needed. Arrange for daily shipments with carriers.
Organize daily shipping schedules, coordinating the shipments with customer service and other appropriate plant personnel. Ensures finished goods are completed and ready to ship per requested orders.
Approve invoices of carriers obtaining adjustments on overcharges, delays, demurrages and freight claims or other unwarranted charges, and initiate the necessary claims to correct deficiency.
Works with Corporate Logistics to resolve any service issues or provide information as requested.
Provide point of contact service for inbound and outbound trucks and carriers. Works with Customer Service to address service issues with carrier Account Representatives. Works with Customer Services Manager on larger issues, when necessary.
Computes all freight charges and allowances daily. Communicates this information to Customer Service.
Responsible for the accuracy of inventory records as to materials received, in storage and disbursements, storage arrangements and efficient handling methods, timely distribution to manufacturing departments to avoid delays and interruption of operations.
Maintain orderliness of the finished goods and shipping warehouse.
Administer established safety policies; perform proper performance reviews and / or disciplinary action as needed. Participate in monthly Process Improvement Team meetings.

Assist in assuring HACCP, GMP's, Work Instructions and Food Safety Quality system requirements (SQF) are in compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Managerial Responsibilities
Supervise the daily responsibilities of hourly employees in the Shipping / Receiving Department and Roll Warehouse within the scope of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Company policies and guidelines.
Supervise the receipt of incoming materials to ensure proper count, weight, quality and identification.
Supervise monthly physical inventories and the adjustment of record variations.
Key Working Relationships
Regular contact with Plant Services Manager regarding materials and shipping schedules.
Manufacturing for ordering raw materials and maintaining inventory levels.
Warehouse staff regarding inventory levels.
Frequent contact with transportation suppliers and occasional contact with customer's purchasing or receiving personnel.
Occasional contact with Production scheduler to discuss raw materials requirements.
Occasional contact with office / manufacturing staff to discuss best method of procurement for various items.
Occasional contact with management to discuss material.

Physical Demands
Significant time is spent the office and the remaining time is spent on the Facility floor. Hazards are those normally associated with a Plant position and include noise levels above 85 decibels, warm building temperature during mid-summer months.
Personal and product safety requirements for the plant include hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes and hairnets.

Qualifications
Education / Experiences
Associates Degree is preferred or High School Degree with 5-7 years of experience.
Minimum of two years shipping / warehouse experience.
Minimum of two years supervisory experience.
Skills
Knowledge of Federal transportation rules, ICC rules, and other shipping regulations.
Good personnel management skills, with the ability to work with employees of all levels to include production, management, and occasionally divisional and corporate staff.
Possess good conflict management skills.
Ability to multitask and handle a lot of interruptions.
Ability to stay organized to meet shipping deadlines.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and general computer literacy. Knowledge of shipping and inventory software.
