Shipfitter - Navy

Responsibilities:
\n

\n
• Reports directly to the Assistant Foreman/Supervisor/Production Lead.
\n
• Understands and follows PPE Policy.
\n
• Lays out material utilizing drawings and blueprints prior to performing cutting/fitting operations.
\n
• Maintains good housekeeping practices, turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste
  \nproperly, sweeping the area, etc.
\n
• Ensures all tools listed on the "Required Tools List" are available for use within 30 days of employment.
\n
• Acknowledging that all requirements of the Quality Assurance Manual are followed when invoked by
  \nQA Workbook.
\n
• Identifies and notifies Supervisor of unsatisfactory conditions during the production operation.
\n
• Fabricates and installs fixtures, jigs, supports and targets to ensure proper alignment during welding processes as directed by the Supervisor/Lead Mechanic.
\n
• Basic computer skills.
\n
• Assumes responsibility for Contractor (CFM) and Government (GFM) furnished materials.
\n
• Ability to use lay-out tools such as tool scales, squares, combination squares, trammel points.
\n
• Understands fitting of structural components using dogs, wedges, strong-backs, etc.
\n
• Strict adherence to safety, quality standards, good housekeeping habits, high level of critical
  \nthinking/reading.
\n
• Travel and overtime are required.
\n
• Work outside specific trade skill as required.
\n

Qualifications:
\n

\n
• Work Experience: Minimum 3+ years of Shipfitter experience.
\n
• Understands and performs the setup, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools used in the
  \ntrade including plasma cutting machines and oxy/fueltorches.
\n
• Has knowledge of the following: shipboard plate (hull, deck, bulkhead) systems (repair/installation
  \npractices, procedures, alignments, and material requirements), blueprint reading and interpretation,
  \nMILSPEC requirements.
\n
• Must be able to fit structural components to tolerance requirements.
\n
• Tack and Fillet Weld qualifications preferred (FCAW/SMAW).
\n
• Must have the ability to gain access to military bases and various government facilities
\n

  \noverhead structures, confined spaces or beneath machinery either indoors or outdoors in the elements and
  \nnoisy conditions.

Work Environment:

• This position is performed in a traditional office environment with local travel required between facilities.
\n
• Work Shift Hours: 6am - 4:30pm (Mon. - Thurs.); overtime potentially on Fridays.
