Position summary:
Operates and maintains water treatment facilities, including chemical feed systems and filtration equipment, to ensure the safe purification of drinking water for St. Louis and surrounding areas. Responsibilities include monitoring water quality, conducting lab tests, maintaining equipment, and responding to chemical emergencies.


Key Responsibilities:

• Operates and maintains chemical feed equipment; calculates chemical feed rates.
• Maintains and monitors clear well and treatment basin elevations.
• Collects bacteria water samples in order to perform lab analysis.
• Inspects water treatment related equipment in order to ensure proper and safe operation.
• Receives and records chemical deliveries; monitors chemical storage areas.
• Operates chlorine room, which includes round-the-clock monitoring of chlorine railcar.
• Backwashes filters and sets for proper pump rate.
• Replaces and repairs plumbing equipment.

Preferred Skills:
Desirable to possess a Class A, B, C, or D Public Drinking Water Treatment System Operator certification issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Candidates with drinking water treatment certifications through other states who are eligible for reciprocity will be considered.
