13News Now / WVEC, Tegna's ABC affiliate in Norfolk, Virginia, is seeking a Digital Content Producer to join our newsroom's digital team, which handles the daily production of news content across our website, mobile and streaming apps, and social media platforms. This role uses SEO strategies, audience listening and real-time trend monitoring to identify and craft engaging stories and guide digital content priorities across all platforms.

Successful Digital Content Producers at 13News Now are newsroom leaders. They track multiple streams of information, keeping the newsroom on the pulse of what's happening in our communities. They take initiative in confirming news tips and creating original content stories, videos, social posts and more around key audience drivers, such as breaking and trending news, weather, sports, and politics. They also edit and enhance content created by others to ensure accuracy, clarity and impact.

Qualified candidates must be strong writers, first, with the ability to produce and edit news stories quickly and accurately and demonstrate that skill through a timed writing and copyediting test. They should also have solid news judgment and experience producing and packaging content for digital platforms. Candidates must be able to type at least 40 words per minute and bring a working knowledge of SEO, social media strategy, CMS, and video- or photo-editing tools. They should be highly organized, communicative and proactive, with the ability to balance daily production tasks alongside project-style work.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position. The schedule will likely include weekends or evenings, and holidays, and is subject to change depending on staffing needs and the demands of the news cycle.

Responsibilities :

• Track multiple streams of information to keep up with the daily news cycle
• Communicate effectively with teammates and the newsroom
• Reach out to organizations, individuals and other sources to confirm information
• Research for facts and credibility
• Write in a compelling, conversational and professional manner
• Write, package and publish original news content
• Edit reporter stories for grammar, content, structure and AP style
• Use creative production / story packaging techniques, like subheads, hyperlinks, graphics and media (viewer pictures, UGC, etc.) to enhance stories
• Use audience analytics tools and SEO strategies, practice social media listening and monitor digital audience trends to discover story ideas, determine content creation and make a variety of editorial decisions for our digital platforms
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or senior digital producers
