Radiation Medicine (Unscheduled, Day Shift) -

Under the supervision of a medical physicist and in collaboration with the radiation oncologist, the Dosimetrist 2 is responsible for age specific radiation treatment simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery. Independently performs monitor unit and dose calculations for radiation fields, recommends and performs in-vivo dosimetry measurements for delivered dose verification. Participates in brachytherapy procedures including planning, radioactive source handling, and radiation surveys. Participates in special procedures (Total Body Irradiation [TBI], eye treatment simulation and planning, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy [IMRT]. Trains new employees and helps in educational activities. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Physics or related field required. Training in dosimetry through completion of a certificate in dosimetry from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited dosimetry program required. Minimum of three years of experience in dosimetry required. RayStation planning experience highly desirable, but not required. Certification as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) required.
Advanced expertise in radiation dosimetry gained through education and practical experience. Knowledge of radiation physics, radiation therapy equipment, human anatomy, oncology principles, radiobiology, radiation safety, and computer skills. .Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
