Job Description

MacKay Sposito is currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Land Development for our Vancouver, WA office. This position is available to an experienced engineer or a project manager with the drive and desire to make an impact as we grow and expand.

In this leadership role, you’ll oversee land development projects from concept through completion, manage key client relationships, and ensure the technical quality of engineering deliverables. You will play a vital part in shaping our team's success by mentoring junior staff, guiding engineering standards, providing design expertise, and driving complex projects forward with excellence.

We offer a comfortable and collaborative work environment with flexible work arrangement options available. We’re serious about our work – but we’re serious about fun, too. If that sounds good to you, let’s talk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex land development projects to ensure alignment with scope, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
  • Serve as the engineering lead for high-profile clients, maintaining strong and proactive partnerships.
  • Oversee and implement quality control procedures for engineering deliverables.
  • Provide technical oversight on site development plans, stormwater reports, utility design, grading, and roadway improvements.
  • Directly supervise engineering staff and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Train, mentor, and develop junior engineers to strengthen team capacity and continuity.
  • Review and approve engineering designs to ensure compliance with standards, codes, and project objectives.
  • Collaborate with leadership on resource planning, process improvement, and project risk management.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities and contributing to proposal efforts.
  • Engage with public agencies and stakeholders to facilitate permitting and project approvals.
  • Stay current with evolving regulations, emerging technology, and industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of civil engineering experience, focused on land development.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Washington.
  • Proven leadership of project teams and client relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of local and regional development standards and permitting processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering quality control and technical design review.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD Civil 3D and industry-relevant design tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and inspire junior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in land development engineering, including project and staff management.
  • Experience with both private and public sector land development clients.
  • Familiarity with agency requirements in the Pacific Northwest region.
  • Business development experience, including proposal preparation and client engagement.
  • Proficiency with project management software (such as Microsoft Project, Deltek Ajera, or Deltek Vantagepoint).
  • A strong personal drive to lead, grow, and contribute to a collaborative and high-performing team.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and analytical/problem-solving skills are essential
  • Must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and staff from various agencies
  • Planning, organizing, scheduling, and project management experience
