Job Description
The Facilities department seeks a Facilities Technician to assist in the operations, maintenance, and repairs to the University’s buildings and grounds as well as light HVAC repairs. The typical work schedule is an 8-hour shift during a 40-hour work week. Some overtime required.
• Responsible for general maintenance including painting.
• Completes facilities work and room set-ups initiated by faculty, staff, and students.
• Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the building systems and facilities as required.
• Performs troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, air handlers, Split systems and pneumatic and digital controls.
• Assists with the completion of small-scale carpentry projects.
• Performs repairs of doors, hardware, and basic locksmith tasks.
• Completes light electrical repairs to appliances, fixtures and switches.
• Completes light plumbing repairs to water and sewage systems including replacement of fittings and clearing of stoppages.
• Repairs and replaces of glass, tile, screens, locks, drapes.
• Assists in removal of snow and ice as needed.
• Assists in small office moves.
• Carries out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Participates in the on-call rotation for emergency situations such as inclement weather or mechanical failures.
• Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned by supervisor
Requirements
Required:
• A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
• A valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control devises.
• Basic carpentry skills and working knowledge of building materials, size, and nomenclature
• Ability to work with hand tools
• Basic computer skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with peers
• Ability to manage and multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Must be able to communicate and read English, follow verbal and written instruction
• The ability to occasionally work off-hours and weekends

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to climb ladders
• Must be able to lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs
• Must be able to crawl under desks
• Must be able to be constantly exposed to weather conditions
• Must spend considerable time on feet
• Must be available in the event of an emergency
